Helicobacter pylori Culture and PCR

Test Description: PCR method for detection of Helicobacter pylori and resistance to Clarithromycin and Levofloxacin.

Specimen Requirement: Gastric biopsy or Fundus biopsy or Antrum biopsy.
Specimen Handling Instructions:
Special specimen transport container required. Please contact LRC and arrange for delivery prior to collection. Send specimens ASAP on dry ice to LRC. Send ASAP ON DRY ICE to Microbiology HGH. When the transport medium is not available, send biopsies in a sterile container with sterile saline, either on sterile gauze or sterile paper. Please do not send the cassette. Send specimens ASAP on dry ice to LRC.
Turnaround Time: 10 days for culture, 1-5 days for NAAT
Additional Information: Culture will be performed for Helicobacter pylori. Metronidazole susceptibility testing is no longer performed. The specimen will routinely be sent for H. pylori PCR.
